Josef has been a musician since he was 12 years old. His first instrument was the guitar, and he soon discovered his passion for writing and performing metal music after discovering Periphery in high school. A few years later, at the age of 16, he began his journey into singing, initially teaching himself and later refining his skills with a jazz vocal coach.
Josef’s early influences included Incubus, Alice In Chains, Led Zeppelin, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Slipknot, Breaking Benjamin, My Chemical Romance, and Three Days Grace. Today, his influences have expanded to include bands like Periphery, Invent Animate, Chelsea Grin, Darko US, Sleep Token, The Contortionist, Tesseract, Skyharbor, and many more across various genres. The two vocalists that inspire him the most are Corey Taylor and Tom Barber.
In his early 20s, Josef attempted to join an active performing band. His first project was as a guitarist in an instrumental progressive metal band, but unfortunately, that band never got off the ground. His second attempt was as the vocalist for an alternative rock band called Phantom Dissonance out of Vista, CA. He remained with the band for 6 months before leaving to pursue a college degree.
For the next five years, Josef focused on his education, first earning his Associate’s degree at MiraCosta College and then his Bachelor’s in Business Analytics at CSU San Marcos. However, during this time, he never lost his passion for writing and performing music. On a whim, he looked through band postings on Craigslist when he came across a project that caught his eye. It was for a progressive metalcore band called Enola Reven, and they were looking for a vocalist.
